The First Day of Summer
Our first dip into the world of adventure film making, was more successful than we could have hoped, with screenings across the world from the Banff to Islamabad.
The First Day of Summer, is an introspective look into risk, family life and a passion for adventure through splitboarding. Written and narrated by Pete Coombs and shot in Iceland by Zak Emerson.
Lofoten: A Splitboarding Story
A ragtag bunch of splitboarders and ski tourers, join forces for a week of riding the sharks teeth spines of Norway’s far north. The camaraderie formed, through shared experiences and an unquenchable passion for the hills, evolves into a deep friendship and sees the core BACKDROP team form into a solid crew.
Off the Grid - Kyrgyzstan (rough cut)
“You’re going where?” “Kyrgyzstan!” “Where even is that?”
For the 2019 BACKDROP expedition the dizzying heights of the celestial mountains of Kyrgyzstan’s Tian Shan range was the destination.
A 16km up valley tow, behind a skidoo, leads the crew to a deserted valley yurt camp. Surrounded by numerous first descents the crew push upward, joined by soaring eagles and a terrifying snowpack.
Grizzly - British Columbia, Canada
(still on the cutting room floor)
When heli dropped into the deep backcoutry of British Colombia, the BACKDROP team busied themselves with building a tented basecamp. Water found, a kitchen tent dug out, and a food cave stacked.
Waking to sunshine, what should have been a morning of freshies turned into a race to stay alive. Well I guess that’s what happens when you drop onto a grizzly hibernation spot and start frying bacon.
