Backdrop Journal @ the National Snow Show 2022 - Birmingham UK

Roll up, roll up! It was Backdrop’s first industry snow show event last weekend, at the UK National Snow Show, held at the NEC exhibition halls in Birmingham, in the UK.

We were there representing Splitboarding, and got to chat with loads of people who were keen to find out more about it, how the equipment works, how to get into it, where to do it (splitboarding, that is), and asking key questions of us like, “What the hell is that contraption?”. But seriously, we had a great time, hopefully passed on some useful info, and met loads of great people - snowboarders, skiers, backcountry peeps of all types, as well as interesting folk running businesses in the snowsports space.

We also had the pleasure of giving away 3 great prizes to people who entered our prize draw, courtesy of a couple of businesses that are friends of Backdrop:

  • A Furberg Snowboard - Furberg Snowboards very generously offered a board of the winner’s choice - big congrats to Phillip Calvin! He was so excited! it gave us a massive buzz to be able to help someone start out on the splitboarding path…

  • Two £50 vouchers from Backcountry Books - Backcountry Books offer guidebooks to the, er, backcountry, as well as art, stationary and maps. Well done to Julie Herdman-burns & Jamie Barnes

Big up to Mack, Ben and Swanny, who came and helped out and gave us a break so we could get around the show ourselves. Thanks fellas!

Our ‘Anatomy of a split’ t-shirt design found a lot of admirers - if you missed out, it’s never too late to get your own, or a hoodie, here.

Next year, it looks like we might be at the London version of the event, so watch out for 2023 dates at some point!

But next up is a splitboarding film night at the Chimera Climbing centre in Tunbridge Wells (just south-east of London) at 7.30pm on the 19th Nov - see you there maybe!!

For the duration of the show, we stayed in the Digbeth area of Birmingham, which is super cool - loads of amazing grafitti, some very cool bars, pubs, brewery’s, and clubs. Feels like the cool bits of east London, but friendlier and still clearly with loads more potential. Big props to Birmingham, thanks all, looking forward to coming back sometime!
