Stove

Fuck its cold!

Residual warmth from skinning all day is long lost, soggy gloves and socks dangle from strings above our heads, dripping snow dampened sweat drops to sizzle on the stove top.

The dash to the alfresco toilet and frozen tent zips is put off for as long as possible.

The stove is our magnet and tales of past rides mingle with tomorrows plans.

It’s tough at night, and there’s no doubting that suffering is part of deep winter camping, yet in the morning the chill is soon lost as the stove is rekindled.

The sun rise opens up a mountain vista, which is ours and ours alone, suffering long forgotten.
