Evac
Terrace, British Columbia, Canada
The grizzly could come back! The ashen skies had made the situation desperate!
We’d broken camp at a remarkable speed, and most of those who’d been chased have already left.
The evacuation helicopter had picked up half the team, and flown westward, only to flyover head again moments later as the weather has closed out the quickest pass.
The panic of activity had lulled, the wind our only conversation now, as all are lost in thoughts of what next? What if the heli can’t make it back?
A nervous hour later the relief was palpable, as the wind brought sounds of civilisation.
Lifting off we had unfinished business in BC’s backcountry, but this was bear terrain and if they didn’t want us there, well it was time to go.
